Practicing presence first thing in the morning!

Practicing presence can be a challenge, especially in the morning when our minds tend to be groggy and unfocused. However, there are ways to start the day that can help you become more present and centered. Combining Eckhart Tolle's teachings about pain and discomfort and Wim Hof's cold exposure and breathwork, you can create a powerful morning routine that will help you stay present throughout the day.

Eckhart Tolle writes about how pain can force us into the present moment, but only if we allow it. By not creating a story around the pain, we can focus on it and become more present.

One way to practice presence by creating discomfort in a controlled manner in the morning is by incorporating Wim Hof's breathing and retention technique. This involves deep breathing and holding your breath after the last exhale for as long as you can comfortably manage. By focusing solely on your breath and the present moment, you can create a sense of calm and centeredness that will carry you throughout the day. Take two or three rounds of this practice, and then take some time to simply sit and be present with your breath.

Another way to practice presence in the morning is through cold exposure. This can be achieved by taking a cold shower after your usual warm shower. The shock of the cold water will help you become fully awake and focused on the present moment. The cold shower can also help lower stress levels, increase willpower, and improve overall health. Start with a short 20 second cold shower, gradually increasing the duration to 2 minutes as you become more accustomed to the cold.

By combining these practices, you can create a morning routine that is both invigorating and grounding. By accepting discomfort through the breathwork and a cold shower you can set the tone for a mindful and centered day ahead.
